Welcome to IOMA
|
IOMA was founded in 1923, making it one of the oldest petroleum
tade associations in the country. Our Regular Members are independent motor fuel
distributors who market in one or more of the New England States. Our members supply
the New England Gas Station Market - “One Stop Shopping” - Those states include
Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Vermont and Maine. As a
group, independently owned distributors supply over 50% of the gasoline sold in
New England. Combined with our Affiliate members (All the regional Major Oil Companies)
we are responsible for close to 70% of the motor fuel sales throughout New England.
IOMA’s regular members are involved in all aspects of motor fuel marketing, including
the construction and operation of service stations, convenience stores, car washes,
truck stops, marinas, mini marts, etc. In addition to its Regular and Affiliate
Members, IOMA welcomes Associate member who provide goods and services within our
industry.
Associate & Affiliate members are invited to attend regular meetings, workshop/seminars,
a summer golf outing and a fall social event which includes in some years, a table
top trade show. With your membership you will receive an Annual Membership Directory
in which all Associate and Affiliate members are listed. We mail 1500 of the highest
volume independent facility-operators throughout New England, our membership
directory. We sent a separate mailer directing those same prospects
to our web site.

| BERNANKE SAYS "TOUGHEN UP" MAIN STREET |
It was disappointing yesterday to listen to Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke throw petroleum marketers and consumers “under the bus” of economic recovery. Essentially, what Bernanke said is that high gasoline, diesel and heating oil prices are unfortunate but that he is not concerned enough yet to take action to ease prices.
Bernanke is essentially favoring Wall Street over Main Street. While investment bank earnings soar, Bernanke asks consumers to “toughen up” and accept higher fuel and food costs. He sells this as the necessary medicine to cure our weak economy.
We believe a larger audience of consumers and business need to become more vocal in opposing these reckless monetary policies. If the Fed keeps printing money and devaluing the dollar, $5 or $6 gas is a real possibility.

Gas Station Cleanup Money Diverted
|
“It’s literally just a couple of weeks and the fund gets
wiped out?” Fox 25’s Beaudet asked.
“Yes,” replied Stephen Dodge, a member of the Underground Storage Tank Fund board.
Dodge, who represents the Massachusetts Petroleum Council on the board, says that
two weeks after Romney asked for the fee increase, he raided the fund by eliminating
it.
Ever since then, the tens of millions of dollars collected at the pumps goes directly
into the general fund for lawmakers to spend however they please.
“Seems like a back-door tax increase?” Fox 25’s Beaudet asked.
“Yes,” Dodge replied. “We refer to it, not to be political, but quite frankly we
refer to it as the hidden Romney gas tax increase.”
